Walter Weston (1861-1940), a English missionary and mountain climber had visited Japan 3 times, wrote "Japan Alps - climbing and exploration -" in 1896, and he spread over the world the magnificence of the Japan Alps, Japanese style customs and public morals in mountain village.
He wrote that Japan Alps was the mystery of the mystery land , no other place but such various nature beauties found. And he wrote praises that the beauty of the ravine like a painting and the grandeur of the woods covering the hills are the best beauty he had seen ever before wandering about Europe, though these mountains were the 1/3 size of famous Alps in Switzerland.
And he praised snow covering them till the summer, Mt. Fuji takes off the snow mantle in the summer, however the Hida mountain giants made of granite are wearing white brighten snow on its hill. This is the Hida mountains.
